School Sites

LEONARDTOWN - July 8, 2005 - Dr. John Martirano, Superintendent of Schools for St. Mary=s County Public Schools said today that he has placed a hold on the position vacated by Deana Nored, former Director of Academic Support for the school system.  AThis is not a hiring freeze,@ said Martirano.  AI am putting a temporary hold on one position, the Director of Academic support.  All other hiring is proceeding.@  

Martirano said the position is an important one, and he would like to have that position filled before the first day of classes.  However, he would like to know a little more about the school system before hiring a new Director of Academic Support.  

He also thanked his staff for their response to his assuming his role as Superintendent.  AThey have responded so well.  They have been briefing me.  I have been meeting with staff and principals.  I=ve only been here 8 days and I feel like I=ve been here a month.@  

Mirtirano said he hopes to have his family moved here before the first day of classes, but for now he will be returning to them on Friday evenings.
