July 8, 2005 - Dr. John Martirano, Superintendent of Schools for St. Mary<FONT SIZE="3" COLOR="#000000" FACE="WP TypographicSymbols" >=</FONT>s County Public Schools said today that he has placed a hold on the position vacated by Deana Nored, former Director of Academic Support for the school system.  <FONT SIZE="3" COLOR="#000000" FACE="WP TypographicSymbols" >A</FONT>This is not a hiring freeze,<FONT SIZE="3" COLOR="#000000" FACE="WP TypographicSymbols" >@</FONT> said Martirano.  <FONT SIZE="3" COLOR="#000000" FACE="WP TypographicSymbols" >A</FONT>I am putting a temporary hold on one position, the Director of Academic support.  All other hiring is proceeding.<FONT SIZE="3" COLOR="#000000" FACE="WP TypographicSymbols" >@</FONT>  </div> <div> Martirano said the position is an important one, and he would like to have that position filled before the first day of classes.  However, he would like to know a little more about the school system before hiring a new Director of Academic Support.  </div> <div> He also thanked his staff for their response to his assuming his role as Superintendent.  <FONT SIZE="3" COLOR="#000000" FACE="WP TypographicSymbols" >A</FONT>They have responded so well.  They have been briefing me.  I have been meeting with staff and principals.  I<FONT SIZE="3" COLOR="#000000" FACE="WP TypographicSymbols" >=</FONT>ve only been here 8 days and I feel like I<FONT SIZE="3" COLOR="#000000" FACE="WP TypographicSymbols" >=</FONT>ve been here a month.<FONT SIZE="3" COLOR="#000000" FACE="WP TypographicSymbols" >@</FONT>  </div> <div> Mirtirano said he hopes to have his family moved here before the first day of classes, but for now he will be returning to them on Friday evenings.  </div> <bR> </td> </tr></table></body>
