Dyson's Bill Clears Committee

By Clare Whitbeck

Senator Dyson's bill to require St. Mary's County's BOCC to write an adequate public facilities ordinance that would require services (roads, schools, etc) to be coordinated with development received a favorable vote  in committee and may even clear the Maryland Senate before the day is over, according to Senator Dyson.  The committee vote was 7 - 3 along party lines.  At the request of an unidentified citizen, some amendments have been added to help make the bill palatable to a wider group of citizens.
In an interview today, Delegate Bohanan (D) says he will do nothing to help the bill through the House,  and Delegate Wood (D) said the bill would have to be very differentthan it was for him to consider voting to approve it.  Delegate O'Donnell (R) says it's all just politics and he would never vote for it.  When it was pointed out that all that is being required is that St. Mary's have the same sort of ordinance that is on the books in Calvert County, where he lives, he said he would never vote for this bill.
